In the latest edition of Mark Gurmans well-known Power On newsletter, insights reveal that Apple is actively progressing in the development of its own smart glasses. These glasses, currently under the codename N50, are set to integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, aiming to deliver a product that aligns with Apples reputation for quality while remaining affordable for consumers.

Apples long-term vision is to produce industry-leading augmented reality (AR) glasses. However, experts suggest that it may take several more years before such technology becomes viable for the mainstream market. In the meantime, Apple is taking a more immediate approach by designing its own smart glasses, which will be reminiscent of the successful collaboration between Meta and Ray-Ban.

The Meta Ray-Ban glasses have gained considerable popularity by incorporating various technological features into a stylish yet lightweight design. While they do not include display capabilities, they offer users several features such as built-in cameras, microphones, an AI assistant, and speakers for audio playback. Apple seems to be following a similar path, as reported by Bloombergs Mark Gurman, indicating that the upcoming device will not be ready for launch just yet.

The overarching goal for Apple is to transform traditional eyewear into a device infused with Apple Intelligence. This innovative product will be designed to analyze the wearers environment and provide relevant information, though it is important to note that it will not extend to the realm of true augmented reality. This indicates that while the glasses may provide useful data, they will not overlay digital images onto the physical world.

Privacy has also been a consideration in the development of these smart glasses. Gurman previously highlighted Apples hesitance to incorporate photo-taking capabilities due to potential privacy implications, although this feature has yet to be finalized. As Apple navigates these sensitive issues, it continues to innovate.

Furthermore, Gurman has reiterated that Apple is working on AirPods equipped with cameras, projecting the companys Visual Intelligence technology into additional hardware categories. The trajectory of these developments suggests that both products, the smart glasses and upgraded AirPods, are anticipated to hit the market around the year 2027, in line with earlier reports.

As Apple gears up for these exciting advancements, the tech community is left to speculate: What impact will smart glasses have on daily life? Will they enhance the user experience or raise more concerns about privacy? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
