Why military helicopters landed at MediaCity last night The choppers were seen landing on a car park roof Army helicopter lands on MediaCity car park in Salford Quays Military helicopters were filmed landing on a car park in MediaCity last night. Witnesses reported seeing three or four choppers circling overhead before landing on the roof of the multi-storey at about 11.30pm. One witness said: "We had three or four Blue Thunder helicopters circling around Media City and landing on the car park next to Premier Inn. "Quite unexpected in the middle of the night. There was also a lot of crew with gear on and ropes." It's understood the landing was part of a routine training operation. Blue Thunder is the nickname given to the Eurocopter Dauphin II helicopters, which is used by the SAS, but it's not been confirmed which branch of the military took part in the exercise. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "UK military personnel train in a variety of locations to ensure they are ready for a broad spectrum of scenarios." A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed the confirm that the landing related to a 'planned training exercise and was not in response to any incident'.
