Nearly a decade ago, men posing as policeman entered the Paris hotel room of Kim Kardashian, holding her at gunpoint and robbing the reality TV star of 10 million dollars' worth of jewellery. Ten suspects, known in French media as the 'grandpa gang', are due to stand trial for the heist, with the Mail's best-in-class crime reporters set to share every courtroom revelation as it happens. Ms Kardashian said she was traumatised after the robbery, with the perpetuators holding the half-naked TV star in the bathroom as they committed the heist. New episodes will be released every Monday and Thursday. Find 'The Trial', wherever you get your podcasts. Mail launches new members-only podcasts following success of The Trial The trial has been delayed several times, with Ms Kardashian denied closure: French authorities claimed that the high-profile case had to make way for more pressing trials of terrorists. Lawyers for Ms Kardashian have said that she will personally deliver testimony in the coming weeks. The gang's nickname comes from the advanced ages of the suspects, with those on trial all reportedly being in their sixties and seventies. If found guilty, those convicted of the most serious charges could face ten years to life imprisonment. Aït Khedache, 70, the robbers alleged leader, has already partially confessed to the crime after his DNA was found on cello tape used to gag Ms Kardashian. In the years since the heist, Khedache penned an apology letter to Ms Kardashian where he acknowledged the psychological harm he had caused the star. Another man who partially confessed to his involvement, Yunice Abbas, 71, has already spent 21 months behind bars for acting as lookout during the heist. The MailOnline exclusively revealed today that a man accused of acting as a fence for the robbers has 'died suddenly'. Marceau Baum-Gertner, 72, a leading figure in Paris's criminal underworld, reportedly died in Paris's 10th arrondissement on March 6 after having received death threats related to the trial. It has been suggested that despite pulling off the daring robbery of a global mega star, some of the suspects may not even know who Kim Kardashian is. The robbers have been described as old-school opportunists and not skilful thieves as was first claimed in the media when the robbery took place. 'The Trial of The Kim Kardashian Heist', will be hosted by the Mail's crime expert Caroline Wheeler and reporter Nick Fagge from France. It is assumed the case will run for around a month.
