James Doyle 'mending well' after surgery but return to the saddle not imminent

James Doyle reports his broken collarbone to be "mending well" following surgery last week, but has yet to be given a clear timeline as to when he will be able to return. Doyle is undergoing physiotherapy after having the injury pinned and plated last Thursday, a result of a fall at Chelmsford on April 18. Wathnan Racing 's retained jockey missed out on riding Map Of Stars in Sunday's Prix Ganay – the son of Sea The Stars was beaten a neck by Sosie at Longchamp – while Ryan Moore has been booked for Coventry Stakes runner-up Electrolyte in the Group 3 Commonwealth Cup Trial at Ascot on Wednesday. "I had an operation on Thursday, which all went well," said Doyle. "We’re four days post-surgery and the physio is very happy with how it’s mending. I don’t have a timeframe for a comeback yet. Hopefully it’s fairly straightforward – a collarbone heals quite quickly." Wathnan notched three wins at Royal Ascot last season, thanks to strikes with Leovanni (Queen Mary), Shareholder (Norfolk) and Haatem (Jersey), and Doyle will want to be back in action ahead of this year's meeting, which runs from June 17-21.
