Our free email updates are the best way to get headlines direct to your inbox Moss can be a nuisance in lawns, thriving in areas where grass is sparse. It's a primitive, opportunistic plant with shallow roots that can easily take hold. However, a professional gardener claims that eliminating moss from your lawn is relatively straightforward. A woman recently sought advice on the Gardening Hints and Tips Facebook page, sharing a photo of her moss-covered lawn and explaining that a moss killer treatment had failed to work. Parisa Brandsey wrote: "Hello fellow gardeners! We moved into a new house a few months ago, and this is our lawn in the backyard; it's all moss. "Front yard looks the same as well. My husband purchased this moss killer, and it was supposed to work within hours. Well, it didn't work, and it's been almost 24 hours. "When he tried to rake the moss, there was more underneath. He is worried about using other products out there because, according to some reviews, they can stain the surrounding area.", reports the Express. A professional gardener responded to Parisa's post with guidance on how to tackle the issue. Chris Watson, a professional gardener, has given lawn sand a glowing review, writing: "Lawn sand is unreal, it's the best for lawn moss! Apply it, wait a few weeks, and rake it out. The dead moss will turn black. I'm a professional gardener, and it works every time." A must-have for gardeners, lawn sand typically consists of a mix of sand, iron sulphate, and a bit of fertiliser. Not only does lawn sand take on moss with vigour—thanks to its iron sulphate content notorious for killing moss—it also acts as a beautifying agent. The iron sulphate enriches your lawn, leaving it with a deep, lush green colour. Nevertheless, those with a passion for gardening are cautioned to avoid getting overzealous with lawn sand as excessive application can lead to scorched or otherwise damaged grass.
