More info Dirk Benedict was already a familiar face in the 1970s due to his leading role in Battlestar Galactica, where he portrayed Lieutenant Starbuck. However, it was in the 1980s that he became a worldwide sensation when he assumed the role of Templeton 'Faceman' Peck in The A-Team. Almost instantly, Dirk became Hollywood's most sought-after heartthrob, winning over audiences with his charm and charisma. Dirk was just 37 years old when he started acting on the popular TV show, and while this period could arguably be considered his zenith, he has maintained a steady career with his most recent credit being in 2020's Charlie's Christmas Wish. Now, at 80 years old, Dirk is defying the ageing process and appears to be in excellent condition. Fans often comment on his youthful appearance when they encounter him at TV conventions. While the show catapulted Dirk to fame, he wasn't the original choice for the role, reports the Express. Tim Dunigan, a decorated war hero, initially played Faceman in the pilot episode, but the show's creators felt he looked too young to convincingly portray a Vietnam veteran. Faceman was renowned as the suave, smooth-talking team member who always had luck with the ladies. He acted as the team's con artist and procurer, miraculously obtaining whatever they required through various disguises.
