Canadiens defenceman Alexandre Carrier out day-to-day with undisclosed injury
The Montreal Canadiens say defenceman Alexandre Carrier is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, putting him in doubt for Game 5 of the team’s NHL first-round playoff series with the Washington Capitals. The Canadiens updated Carrier’s status Tuesday. He joins a growing list of injured Canadiens with goaltender Sam Montembeault and winger Patrik Laine also out day-to-day, though Laine did skate at Tuesday’s practice. Carrier left the ice in the third period of Game 4 after being hit by Capitals forward Tom Wilson. The hit led to a tying goal and sparked the Capitals to a 5-2 victory. Carrier has two assists and is averaging just over 20 minutes of ice time over the first four games of the series. Forwards Brendan Gallagher and Josh Anderson, and defenceman David Savard also did not skate Tuesday for “maintenance” but are expected to play Game 5, which is scheduled for Wednesday in Washington. The Capitals lead the best-of-seven series 3-1.
