'Every fan agrees' - Gabby Agbonlahor on exactly what cost Aston Villa a place in FA Cup final There were some fundamental tactical mistakes from Aston Villa at Wembley, says Gabby Agbonlahor Dejected Villa players after their Wembley defeat (Image: The FA via Getty Images ) Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor says everything went wrong for the club in their FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace. Addressing the club's dismal display against the Eagles at Wembley, Agbonlahor pinpointed the many things he felt factored into such a insipid showing from Unai Emery 's side, who were beaten 3-0. ‌ Speaking to BonusCrypto.com, he explained: "Everything went wrong. First of all, the manager choosing to play Torres against one of the scariest, strongest, pain in the a*** starters in Mateta. ‌ "He’s the sort of player that you play your quickest and strongest centre-half against. Tyrone Mings should have started that game, and every Villa fan agrees. "Also, Lucas Digne and Matty Cash at full-back, they kept on getting forward but coming back and passing it to Martinez. You have to look at the positives for Crystal Palace, they played on Villa. "In the last five games, they’ve won four and drawn one against Villa - so for Villa, Palace is clearly our bogey team. I think the team and the tactics were totally wrong and Aston Villa looked very tired. "Crystal Palace looked like they had a lot more energy and that will probably go down as one of the most comfortable semi-final wins you will ever watch." ‌ Everyday, the BirminghamLive football desk strive to deliver all manner of news, features and transfer-related stories as a part of our overall package of Aston Villa content.
