More info A high energy Plymouth festival is happening this weekend which will see national acts and local talent “playing their hearts out". The one-day festival has become “a beacon” for inclusivity and empowerment in the alternative music scene in the city. The We Are Here Festival is a one-day music event designed to amplify the voices of female and underrepresented gender artists in the music industry. The organisers are gearing up for the “most exciting year yet” with a massive line-up for 2025 - and it’s happening this Saturday, May 3, at Leadworks. We Are Here Festival provides an inclusive space where underrepresented gender artists can showcase their talent and take centre stage. National and local talent will be playing their hearts out for an “unforgettable experience”, including Cornish female fronted punk band, The Dollies, who produce “mega tracks for anarchist ears”. One festival-goer commented on last year's event: "Great venue with an amazing, supportive atmosphere. The event and concept is completely unique, and it was heart-warming to see so many like-minded, friendly queer people in one place. I felt so safe and loved! Can’t wait for the next one." The We Are Here Festival’s debut in 2023 was a great success and another festival went ahead in 2024. Leadworks are “thrilled” to have secured funding from Arts Council England, meaning they can “pay artists fairly” and continue to grow - and this Saturday the third event will take place. Bess Cheeseright, one of the event’s representatives, said: "We’re all about energy, empowerment, and celebration. This is the space where artists who are often overlooked get to shine, and we can’t wait to give them the stage they deserve." We Are Here Festival’s vision is to create a music industry that “celebrates diversity, champions fairness, and empowers artists of all genders to rise to the top”. This year’s festival is packed with “electrifying performances” and organisers have said that “thanks to support from Arts Council England” the 2025 festival will be the “most exciting” yet. We Are Here Festival line-up: Pussy Liqour – Brighton: “Pure uncensored female rage raising estrogen levels wherever they go.” Oh the Guilt – Bristol: "Proudly queer, proudly trans. Dream punk band from Bristol." The Cosmic Something – London: "Neuro-divergent, queer, outsider, alt, rock." Tiger Empress – three weirdos from Cornwall. "Expect chainsaw riffs, fuzz - soaked bass and big beats." The Dollies – "Female fronted punk band based in Cornwall producing mega tracks for anarchist ears." Varicosa – "Like Mike Patton but a Nudibranch." Seizure Salad – "Riot Grrrl Tom Foolery." No Feathers – "Alt pop three piece just doing their best." Slimy Girls - "Local supergroup playing their debut show!" The Other Woman (Livewire Alumni) - "Heartfelt indie and boppy beats." The festival will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Leadworks in Stonehouse – doors at 2pm.
