Channel 5's new documentary features Philip Grindell, an ex-Metropolitan Police officer with three decades of experience, discussing the chilling case of Gavin Plumb, a 37 year old from Essex who schemed to abduct, sexually assault, and kill the former This Morning presenter. ‌ Last year, Chelmsford Crown Court learned that Plumb had been planning the gruesome attack since 2021, fuelled by his fixation on the star. ‌ Read more Holly Willoughby makes heartbreaking admission about life change after murder plot He was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years behind bars. Plumb, who shared his abduction fantasies online in forums such as 'Abduct Lovers', was found to have thousands of images of Holly on his phone and had tracked her whereabouts. Article continues below Philip explained that police were alerted to Plumb's threat after he posted his intentions online. A significant "immediate red flag" was raised when Plumb, with previous attempted kidnapping convictions, alluded to murder, reports Wales Online. The security guard from Harlow, Essex, was suspected of intending to use "serious violence". ‌ When officers raided his home, they could "make an assessment" thanks to his unlocked phone. Yet, what they uncovered was even more alarming. Philip disclosed the suspect's alarming actions, saying: "And so when they were able to look at his mobile phone and see images that he'd saved of Holly Willoughby - I think it's over, you know, 10,000 or something - it allows them very quickly to make an assessment. ‌ "They're in the right place; it's the right person. They know they're on the right track. During the search, they find a list in his bedside cabinet, which has over 130 names on it, of people he is also interested in or has some fixation on. "At that stage, they won't know how much of a fixation, which ones he's targeting. Are any of those other people at greater risk? "You don't know who else he's engaging with. Does he have co-conspirators? Who's at risk here?". ‌ Essex Police, in a statement released last year, detailed how Plumb discussed online his plans to restrain his victim and had even purchased chloroform, cable ties, and ropes. An undercover officer from the US took swift action, informing the FBI and UK authorities about Plumb's vile plans after he attempted to recruit the officer for his scheme via the internet. Plumb, apprehended at his residence in 2023, is set to serve a minimum of 15 years and 85 days behind bars, accounting for the time already spent on remand before his trial, as reported by the BBC. Article continues below Essex Police's Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood commented on the case, asserting: "He tried to claim throughout the trial that he was an obsessive fan and a fantasist – that is simply not true. "He planned this attack on Ms Willoughby over a two-year period, scoping her movements, seeking to elicit help from others to carry out his wicked plan, buying chloroform and other items to incapacitate, restrain and inflict violence upon her. "He is no fantasist - he's a calculated, violent, sexual predator who has spent his adult life inflicting or plotting to inflict harm on women."
