Man City player ratings vs Wolves with two 8/10s as Erling Haaland unused

Manchester City were 1-0 winners over Wolves on a rare Friday night outing to move closer to Champions League qualification. Kevin De Bruyne scored the only goal of the night to make another memory at the Etihad. Despite their lowly league position, Wolves were the form team in the Premier League going into this game and caused City problems. Rayan Ait Nouri and Matheus Cunha both hit the post for the lively visitors in a game where they will feel unlucky not to score. The deadlock was broken by De Bruyne though in the first half after tremendous work from Jeremy Doku to tee him up. City couldn't add to their lead but they could see the game out to pick up three more important points without needing to bring the returning Erling Haaland off the bench. Ederson: Good for City to have him back, even if he was helpless when the ball twice hit the woodwork and bounced clear. 6 Nunes: Booed by the Wolves fans and got off to a bad start, albeit improved as the game went on and the home fans cheered every action. 6 Dias: Another clean sheet for the defence, Dias steadied the ship after a rocky start and kept everyone focused. 7 Gvardiol: In the right place to clear Ait-Nouri's effort off the line and slotted in seamlessly at left-back in the second half. 7 O'Reilly: His ability to get into the box was terrific again, although he had just started to lose possession a few times when he was substituted early. 7 Silva: Never stopped moving as he nipped Wolves attack after attack in the bud, making it look effortless as he cut out any danger. 8 Gundogan: Wasn't able to link the midfield with the attack too often, with City sending most of their play through De Bruyne or Doku. 6 Kovacic: Tried a few times to keep his goalscoring form going and even when that failed he was reliable alongside Silva. 7 De Bruyne: Took his goal very well and his runs behind and balls into the box regularly posed questions for Wolves. 7 Doku: Made the difference with his actions for the goal, and nobody could handle his pace. 8 Marmoush: Deployed wide a lot, but that alone shouldn't have meant he carried so little goal threat. 6 Substitutes Akanji (for O'Reilly, 58) The most he's had on the pitch since his injury and no dramas. 6 Lewis (for Marmoush, 83) A cameo after his Wembley goal Foden (for De Bruyne, 83) First minutes since the derby McAtee (for Gundogan, 83) No time Gonzalez (for Kovacic, 93) Even less time Not used: Ortega, Grealish, Savinho
