While speaking with PEOPLE at the recent MJ&M two-day fundraising event in Austin, which was put together with the McConaugheys, football coach Mack Brown and singer-songwriter Jack Ingram, Camila, noted that her oldest son Levi, 16, had caught the acting bug. "Levi, our oldest, he's getting to a little bit of acting. Well, I shouldn't say a little bit," Camila tells PEOPLE. "He's always done things like worked behind the camera or worked on sets or in the song department when we're traveling for Matthew's work," she says. But now he's going to be in front of the camera. "He got a part on one of the movies that Matthew did called The Lost Bus, and then from that he got auditions to go try out for this other movie, and he did everything. He earned it himself," she says proudly. "It was beautiful to see," she says. "He did a bunch of auditions and then tons of meetings, and then had to go in person and really did the whole thing. And then he got the part. So he's actually got a proper part in a movie called Way of the Warrior Kid starring Chris Pratt." Over the years, the McConaugheys have given a window into their parenting styles and how they are raising their children, which includes daughter Vida, 15, and son Livingston, 12. In June 2020, the couple spoke about parenthood during an interview with Town & Country, and Matthew revealed that he is "more consistently the yes guy" of the two of them. "Sometimes loving your kids means giving them just what they want. Other times, it means tough love," he told the outlet. "Affluent people can give their kids everything they want, but they're not usually going to get what they need. Loving a child is a lot harder if you really give a damn." While talking to PEOPLE in April 2024, Matthew said that being a dad has "made me a better actor." "Having children I know has made me a better artist and has made me a better actor, because kids see things for the first time all the time. Their questions are innocent," he said, citing his time on the HBO show True Detective. The PEOPLE App is now available in the Apple App Store! Matthew continued, "I cannot tell them what the show's really about, it's not age-appropriate. So I have to go into a parable for them... I had to become a better storyteller to tell my kids about a good guy, a bad guy and a monster." The 16-year-old son spoke with PEOPLE at the premiere of Matthew's new film, The Rivals of Amziah King, at SXSW Film Festival in Austin. While at the premiere, Levi did his first red carpet interview, chatting about his upcoming acting debut in the coming-of-age film Way of the Warrior Kid. When asked if his dad gave him any advice for acting in his first film, the teenager shared that there were a few things his famous father said. "I mean, he gave me a lot of advice, and he was able to mentor me in a couple different ways," Levi explained. "But I'd say the main thing for acting, and pardon my French, is no b------- in your bones and own what you're doing and make a choice regardless if that ends up being the right one or the wrong one — commit to it and know what you're saying."
