Burnley have agonisingly missed out on the Championship title to end a memorable season with disappointment on the final day. Scott Parker's side were level with Leeds United on 97 points at the start of Saturday's action before beating Millwall 3-1 at home. 3 Burnley were on the cusp of winning the Championship title Credit: Getty 3 But Leeds overtook them with a late winner at Plymouth Credit: Getty However, Leeds also won as they came from a goal down to beat the relegated Plymouth Argyle on their travels. Willy Gnonto fired them level and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Manor Solomon clinched the silverware for the Whites. Leeds have finished the 2024/25 Championship season on 100 points, and so have Burnley ahead of their Premier League returns. But the Clarets will despair in the fact that reaching a century wasn't enough for them to win the title due to an inferior goal difference. In fact, they have become the first ever team in England's top four tiers to amass 100 points and not win the title. Across all 46 matches in the Championship this season, Burnley lost on just two occasions. They also went unbeaten at home and kept 30 clean sheets in total but have had to settle for second. Josh Brownhill scored two goals in their victory over Millwall, with Jaidon Anthony also on the scoresheet at Turf Moor. Burnley fans in attendance would have been closely following the scoreline at Plymouth as Leeds appeared to be stumbling. However, it's Daniel Farke's side who have finished top of the table to win their fifth ever title in the second division.
