Sphere Entertainment, a leading name in immersive entertainment, has officially announced the upcoming launch of two highly anticipated experiences set to take place at its innovative spherical venue in Las Vegas. The venue, known for its impressive dimensions, measures an astounding 516 feet in width and features a state-of-the-art 160,000 square foot screen. The first of these experiences, an enhanced rendition of the iconic film The Wizard of Oz, is slated to premiere on August 28, 2025. The second experience, titled From The Edge, will showcase the extraordinary feats of elite athletes and is expected to debut in 2026.

In collaboration with major industry players such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Google, and Magnopus, Sphere Entertainment aims to elevate the timeless story of The Wizard of Oz using cutting-edge technology. According to representatives from the company, “Sphere will use cutting-edge technologies to enhance the original film.” They assure fans of the classic tale that the new adaptation will honor the story’s integrity while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of what is possible in immersive media.

Although The Wizard of Oz underwent a 4K HDR restoration in 2020, the resolution of Sphere’s screen takes visual fidelity to a new level, boasting an incredible 16,000 pixels by 16,000 pixels. This remarkable clarity allows for a viewing experience that is not only visually stunning but also immersive in multiple sensory dimensions. The venue is designed to engage audiences by recreating environmental elements, including heat, wind, and even scents, which could potentially transform how viewers experience this beloved classic. However, specific details about what the immersive adaptation will entail remain under wraps.

The second experience, From The Edge, promises to be just as thrilling. This project will showcase extreme sports and feature five world-class athletes, including renowned rock climber Alex Honnold, free diver Alenka Artnik, skier Markus Eder, surfer Kai Lenny, and BASE jumper Katie Hansen Lajeunesse. Filming for From The Edge is currently taking place at breathtaking locations such as Jordan, Dubai, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Austin, Las Vegas, and Maui, ensuring a visually stunning backdrop for the athletes’ astonishing feats.

Both productions are being developed by Sphere Studios, the company’s Burbank-based production facility that was launched nearly two years ago. Sphere Studios is also responsible for the Big Sky ultra-high-resolution camera system, which is currently being utilized to capture footage for From The Edge. This innovative approach not only enhances the quality of the productions but also aligns with Sphere Entertainment’s vision of creating unparalleled immersive experiences for audiences.
