Fans of classic anime are in for a treat as the beloved series 'Future Boy Conan' is set to debut on the popular anime streaming platform RetroCrush later this month. This much-anticipated release will be available to paid subscribers starting on April 18, while a free, ad-supported version will be accessible to all viewers on April 20, 22, and 27.

'Future Boy Conan' is widely regarded as one of the finest works of the legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki. The anime is loosely based on the novel The Incredible Tide by Alexander Key, and it transports viewers to a dystopian future ravaged by the consequences of a devastating global war. The storyline follows the titular character, Conan, a young boy who, along with his friend Lana, emerges as a beacon of hope in a world teetering on the brink of another catastrophic conflict.

In this post-apocalyptic setting, remnants of humanity grapple with the powers that led to their downfall, and Conan and Lana may hold the key to averting a second Armageddon. The plot is not only engaging but also thought-provoking, raising questions about survival, power, and redemption in a decimated world.

The influence of 'Future Boy Conan' extends far beyond its original air date. Its innovative storytelling and unique animation style have left a lasting mark on the anime industry and have been cited as an inspiration by a plethora of creators. Notable figures such as Yoshiyuki Tomino, who also contributed to the series, drew from its legacy for his own projects, including the iconic Xabungle. Directors like Shinji Aramaki have also acknowledged the series' impact on their work. Furthermore, contemporary anime and manga, including the recent series Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, frequently reference 'Future Boy Conan', showcasing its continued relevance in today’s media landscape.

For those who prefer physical media, 'Future Boy Conan' is also available on Blu-ray from GKIDS for a retail price of $40.98.
