Lock Cities Chorus and After Class will join forces on May 9, 2025 at the STW site, located at 121 Pittsburgh Ave, for a special evening appropriately titled “A Night of A Cappella”. The Sault Theatre Workshop is a non-profit organization devoted to the production and promotion of live theatre in and around Sault Ste Marie. The group was founded in 1948. “As we present our 76th season of quality productions, we look back with pride on our accomplishments,” says Harry Houston, Chair of the STW board. STW have represented Sault Ste Marie in many theatre festivals at the regional, provincial, and national levels, over the years winning much recognition. They have sponsored and conducted workshops and training sessions in all aspects of theatre bringing many theatre professionals into our community. Many regional and provincial drama festivals have been hosted by the company and many members, young and old, have moved on into professional theatre. STW feels very fortunate to have their own building and strive to improve the theatre experience for members and audience at every opportunity. “We feel it is important to provide the live theatre experience in our community, to provide the training and opportunities for young and old, and to make it possible to see the classic plays, the modern plays, the Canadian plays, Houston continues. It is this profound impact on theatre is Sault Ste Marie that spurred Terri Miller and Ted McKinney, co-producers of this event, to brainstorm a way to provide support to STW. After Class After Class is a subset of the Northland Barbershop Chorus. The chorus, and its director Bob Shami, have a long history with Sault Theatre Workshop so the opportunity to join with the Lock City Chorus in this fundraiser was a “no-brainer”. After Class consists of many school teachers, both active and retired. They are also the teaching group for the chorus. Their music choices, sung a cappella in the barbershop style, lean towards 60’s hits, “My Girl”, “King of the Road”, however, when a tune and arrangement hits right they are more than ready to adapt their repertoire to fit it in. These men are ready to entertain and are excited to be a part of this worthwhile evening. Lock Cities Chorus This passionate group of singers’ repertoire encompasses a rich variety including heartfelt ballads that tug at the heartstrings, lively uptunes that lift spirits, whimsical nonsense songs that bring smiles, and engaging pieces that invite audience participation. They showcase the unique beauty of a cappella singing and demonstrate the intricate art of four-part harmony. Each performance is a celebration of vocal skill and camaraderie. The group’s goal is , “to share the joy of harmony, the power of music, and to leave our audience inspired and uplifted.” The Lock Cities Chorus has been an integral part of the musical fabric of both Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for over 30 years. The ladies are always happy to sing to a crowd, especially when the cause is as important as supporting their friends in the Arts community of Sault Ste. Marie. Tickets for this event are $25 and can be obtained by calling 705-94t-7299. Thank you for your support of the opportunities provided by STW to our community.
