This prolific Nottingham beggar has been banned from going within 10m of any cash machine for the next three years. Stephen Newcombe has also been forbidden from hanging around near shops and public doorways for the same duration. The 39-year-old was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order after he pleaded guilty to repeatedly begging in a public place when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 14. The homeless defendant was recognised by officers in Radford loitering next to a cash machine outside of Asda in Hyson Green whilst they were out on patrol on March 20. The order comes after a string of warnings from the neighbourhood team as Newcombe frequented spots across Radford. As part of the order the defendant “must not loiter outside or within ten metres of a shop or doorway the public have access to”. The Criminal Behaviour Order, in place from April 14, also means the offender must not enter an exclusion zone surrounding Asda in Hyson Green, not loiter within 10 metres of a cash machine and must attend and engage in three sessions at a substance misuse service in Nottingham Sergeant Karl Browne, of the Radford neighbourhood policing team, said: “Newcombe has shown through his repeated actions a complete disrespect and disregard for the law. “This is not a step we have taken lightly, but Newcombe has had plenty of opportunities to make changes to his life and to get the help he needs. I hope this order will finally encourage him to embrace help that will address the root causes of his offending. “We want Radford and Hyson Green to be safe places to live, work and visit and won’t hesitate to take similar actions against others in future.”
