Garda probe after worker discovers human skull in west Cork garden

A Garda investigation is underway after a human skull was discovered buried in a garden in west Cork. The partial human remains were found in the garden of a house near Eyeries on the Beara Peninsula in west Cork on Friday. It is understood that the skull was found wrapped in plastic and could have lain buried for up to four decades. The scene has been preserved pending an examination by a pathologist, however, it had not yet been declared a crime scene last night. Members of the West Cork Divisional Scene Investigation Team were, however, on standby to conduct an examination of the scene. The age of the remains is not known at this stage, nor is it clear yet if the skull was that of an adult or a child, or of a male or a female. A Garda spokesman yesterday said investigations ‘are ongoing’.
