Anthropic Set to Launch Voice Mode Feature for Claude AI Chatbot

In a significant development within the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, Anthropic is poised to unveil a new feature known as voice mode, which is expected to compete directly with OpenAIs similar feature integrated into ChatGPT. This announcement was reported by Bloomberg, which indicated that the rollout could commence as early as this month, marking a pivotal moment for the company.
Anthropics voice mode will be embedded within its Claude AI chatbot, enhancing its functionality by allowing users to interact with the chatbot through voice commands. This feature aims to improve user experience by providing a more conversational and accessible method of communication. Notably, Anthropic plans to introduce three distinct English-language voices for this feature, named Airy, Mellow, and Buttery, each designed to offer a unique auditory experience.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the voice mode feature has been mentioned. Mike Kreiger, Anthropics chief product officer, alluded to the potential for voice capabilities in an interview with the Financial Times last month. He remarked, We will do voice internally, too; it is a useful modality to have. We have prototypes. This statement underscores the company's commitment to enhancing its AI offerings and responding to the growing demand for voice-activated technologies.
The initial discovery of references to the voice mode feature was made by app researcher M1Astra, who unearthed details within Anthropics iOS application. Bloomberg later confirmed these findings, suggesting that the company is making strides toward integrating this feature into its product lineup. Despite reaching out for comments, The Verge did not receive an immediate response from Anthropic, reflecting the companys current focus on finalizing the voice mode launch.
Founded by a group of former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has rapidly established itself as a formidable contender in the AI arena, positioning itself as a direct competitor to OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. In addition to the anticipated voice mode, the company has recently introduced a premium subscription tier priced at $200 per month aimed at power users. This tier offers enhanced features and capabilities, further solidifying Anthropics place in the competitive AI landscape. Moreover, just recently, on Tuesday, the company announced a new research-focused AI tool, indicating that it is not only focusing on expanding existing features but also on innovating new tools for research purposes.
