Neighbours rushed to help man after car 'deliberately driven at him' A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder A blue tent was erected on the south Liverpool street Neighbours rushed to help a man after he was "deliberately driven at" in a Woolton street. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to Stonyhurst Road in Woolton at around 11.45pm to reports that a man had been seriously injured when he was hit by a car. Neighbours rushed from their homes to help the 47-year-old man, but after paramedics took him to hospital, he died from his injuries despite everyone's best efforts. ‌ A 41-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. A large blue tent remained on the street on Saturday, April 19, with forensic officers continuing work. Speaking to the ECHO, one neighbour said: "I went to bed at 11pm, and then a bit later I heard shouting. It wasn’t just a general argument, it was severe, it was really aggressive. Later I saw people standing in the road." Other people living on the street described hearing a "commotion" and the sound of screeching car brakes before a large group of people were seen in the middle of the road at around 11.30pm. Article continues below Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man. “People who live on the road came to his aid but despite their best efforts and those of paramedics, he sadly passed away in hospital. “Our thoughts remain with his family at this tragic time and specially trained officers are supporting them. ‌ “We have launched an investigation into what happened and we have already arrested a suspect and seized the car we believe was involved. “Our officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene and studying CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances. “I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident and any residents living locally who might have CCTV showing the incident, to please get in touch.
