More info Cash has been released to fund exciting improvements that will transform a corner of Devon into a vibrant hotspot for locals and visitors alike. Chulmleigh is to benefit from more than £36,000 in public open space funding, as North Devon Council approved a major contribution to enhance community facilities in the heart of the town. The council’s strategy and resources committee has approved the release of £36,935.60 in Section 106 funding, directing it to Chulmleigh Parish Council to help finance a project at Red Lion Corner. The planned improvements will include the installation of a shelter, new seating, planters and a cycle stand, transforming the area into a more welcoming space for residents and visitors alike. While the majority of the funding will come from the council, the remainder of the project cost will be met by the parish council itself. The contribution has been made possible by developer payments linked to the Leigh Road development, through Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. This legislation allows councils to require developers to contribute towards local infrastructure projects to help offset the impact of new housing. Ken Miles, chief executive of North Devon Council, said: "It's very pleasing to see our S106 funding being used to improve open spaces and enhance them for residents to enjoy. I'd like to thank Chulmleigh Parish Council for bringing this proposal forward and we look forward to seeing it take shape". Further details about Section 106 funding and how communities can propose their own projects are available on the council's S106 public open space funding page.
