A 22-year-old woman died in the crash, and the man, also aged 22, driving the car was taken to hospital fighting for life. The alleged gunman then got out of the Porsche and approached a white SsangYong Rexton, that had stopped to render assistance after the crash, with a gun. “He was running over looking like he was trying to help someone out of the car,” witness Rhys Berka told 7NEWS. But rather than offering the 62-year-old SsangYong driver help, he allegedly shot the man in the arm and stole the car. The driver was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious injuries. Queensland Police allege the gunman then stole another car, a grey Mazda 3, from a 16-year-old Newmarket girl who was having a driving lesson with her parents. Queensland twin sisters, Paula and Bridgette Powers, were witnesses to the man’s alleged rampage. They spoke in unison as they told 7NEWS about the moment they heard someone yell: “Run, he’s got a gun.” “All I was thinking about when we were running is, ‘I hope he doesn’t fire’.” They called their mother “brave” for approaching the alleged gunman’s crashed stolen car. “He had blood all over his face,” the Powers twins said. “She goes ‘are you alright?’ ... and he goes, ‘I’ll shoot you’, and she goes ‘hey! I’m here to help’.” The white Ssangyong crashed in Landsborough, before the alleged gunman stole a third car from a learner driver. He was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with head and body injuries, where he remains under police guard. Police confirmed on Tuesday that the alleged gunman was charged with 15 offences, including dangerous driving causing death and armed robbery. He is expected to appear before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday. “We would encourage anyone who witnessed the incidents to contact police,” police said. Of the hundreds of witnesses believed to have seen the horror unfold, a number of them narrowly escaped tragedy. “He came around the back of us, and almost cleaned up the back of our car, with our daughter in the back of it,” witness Joshua Strachan told 7NEWS. “Someone’s watching over us. It was out of control.” Three crime scenes have been declared by police, one in Palmview and two in Landsborough. Police said investigations are continuing, and further charges were likely.
