A seven-year-old child is dead and two more people are in a critical condition after a spurned girlfriend allegedly had poisoned Easter eggs delivered to the home of her ex-boyfriend’s new partner. Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, 35, is accused of purchasing and poisoning the eggs herself before they were delivered to the home of her former boyfriend’s new partner, Mirian Lira (32). “With love, to Mirian Lira. Luis immediately fell ill and died in hospital on Thursday, one day after consuming the spiked chocolate. Mother and daughter remain in a critical condition. Local reports allege this wasn’t the first time Barbosa had conspired to poison Lira, with Imperatriz Online reporting she once tried to give her poisoned candies at a tasting session at the supermarket where she worked. Barbosa was arrested on a bus heading for her hometown on Thursday after authorities found receipts potentially implicating her in the alleged poisoning. She admitted to buying the chocolates, but not poisoning them, according to local reports. “There are several indications that clearly point to this woman being the perpetrator of the crime,” Mauricio Martins, a Brazilian security official, wrote in a statement. “The police will continue working to strengthen this evidence and present her to the Judiciary to answer for this barbaric crime.”
