One for the history books! Irish cheerleading team reap success in the US

The Irish are once again making waves across the pond as a Dublin-based cheerleading team has just made history - how's that for a bit of good news to boost your spirit? Founded in 2008, the Strike Force All Star Cheerleading Programme has won gold at the prestigious All Star World Championships in Orlando, Florida. Oftentimes the subject of stereotyping, this group of Irish cheerleaders are far removed from the traditional image of a cheer troupe. The hardworking group boast high energy while competing in the sport that combines gymnastics, acrobatics and intricate choreography. Teams from all around the world are judged on athleticism, skill, technique and performance quality, and our very own came out on top (no surprises there!). Strike Force Slate, the senior CoEd team of Strike Force Cheer, delivered an incredible final performance that wowed the judging panel and gave them the edge over the reigning champions. It is the first Irish team to win a World Championship in the sport, putting Finglas and the Irish cheerleading community on the map. It wasn't the only noteworthy success for the Irish, however, as Strike Force Deja Blue, the junior team, also secured a silver medal in their division. Strike Force Cheer is home to over 100 athletes, aged between four and 30 years old. With a strong female representation, it is beginning to see a surge in male members.
