'I claim these three tax deductions every year and it saves me hundreds' Finance expert, Charlotte Baroukh has revealed a number of circumstances in which you can claim tax deductions in your Self Assessment - and there are some you may never have realised A finance expert has identified three potential tax deductions you may be unaware of (stock image) A finance expert has urged others to "not leave money on the table" by following her advice on tax deductions. Self-proclaimed 'Tax Queen' Charlotte Baroukh took to TikTok to list the three deductions she makes every year, which she claims could save you hundreds of pounds. Her first suggestion may be of particular interest to those who work remotely. "If you work from home, you may be able to claim tax relief on part of your electricity, utilities and even your internet cost," Charlotte explained. She advised that HMRC offers a flat rate of £6 per week, which equates to £312 per annum - or the "actual rate" if you keep the records. Claims can be made via Self Assessment tax returns. Content cannot be displayed without consent Charlotte went on to reveal that those who are taking work-related courses and/or certifications, you can claim them. "For example, if you're a make-up artist and you're taking a make-up masterclass, then of course claim that," she said. Charlotte continued, stating that if you require tools, equipment and safety gear in your role, then you are also eligible for tax relief here too. "Just remember to keep your receipts," she closed. Responding to Charlotte's clip, one TikTok user detailed their scenario: "So random - but as cabin crew can I claim - I do about 10 standbys a month from home and rarely get called as well as being rostered e-learning to complete from home." Others, meanwhile, had queries about their own circumstances. "I am PAYE [pay as you earn], can I claim wfh [work from home] expenses via a tax return?" another person asked. Charlotte explained: "Absolutely, but the rules for PAYE are stricter. Look on the HMRC website to find out more, but for example your employer must need you to work from home rather than it being a choice." A third TikTok user queried: "What about content creators, can they claim clothes for example that are used for videos? Considering that those would be used once video is made." Charlotte advised: "Unfortunately not as you don’t have to have those clothes to record the content (hope that makes sense!). You can expense marketing costs, production costs etc." Whilst a fourth wrote: "They're closing my office soon and I'll be wfh, there is another office over 10 miles away but my contract states my place of work will not change over 10 miles. Can I claim tax relief to wfh?" Charlotte responded: "In this scenario yes you can, as 1 - The office is closing and 2 - They know the new office is out of your range."
