Politics latest: Starmer: 'They're not Conservatives, they're a con': Starmer responds to Jenrick's coalition comments

Badenoch had the upper hand but PMQs was ill-tempered and unsurprising, says Beth Rigby Ill-tempered and unsurprising, is the verdict of Sky News political editor Beth Rigby's on PMQs. Kemi Badenoch felt on safe ground questioning Sir Keir Starmer on gender identity, says Beth. Starmer for his part respected the ruling of the Supreme Court in an unsurprising move. But this gave Badenoch fuel to build up an argument to say that Starmer doesn't lead, that he shifts like "a weather vane" and that he "doesn't have the balls" to stand up for the right thing on the issue of gender identity. Beth adds that Starmer's response that nobody is listening to Badenoch and his pivot - to Robert Jenrick's rumoured goal of succeeding Badenoch as leader of the Conservatives - was "pretty ill-tempered". Badenoch would have felt "she had the upper hand on that because this has been an issue that she has been strong on and Labour has tied itself in knots", Beth adds.
