Tragic Skiing Accident Claims Life of New Hampshire Man

A tragic incident unfolded at the Black Mountain ski area in Jackson, New Hampshire, on the evening of Sunday, February 5th, 2023, claiming the life of a 39-year-old man, identified as Eric Page, who resided in nearby Bartlett. The accident occurred around 5:51 p.m. when a passerby alerted authorities after witnessing the aftermath of the incident.
According to the Jackson Police Department, the initial reports indicated that a skier had deviated from the designated trail, resulting in serious injuries. However, upon arrival, Officer Mike Mosher and his team discovered a much more severe situation than initially anticipated. The gravity of the incident left first responders scrambling to provide immediate assistance.
As reported by the ski patrol, they were dispatched to the 'Upper Maple Slalom' trail, which is known for its challenging terrain. Upon their arrival near the summit, they found Mr. Page lying unresponsive at the edge of the snow line, positioned to the left of the trail, and suffering from significant injuries. This alarming discovery prompted first responders to initiate life-saving measures as they worked urgently to evacuate him from the scene.
Emergency personnel from the Bartlett-Jackson Ambulance Service quickly arrived to lend their support. Unfortunately, despite all efforts to revive Mr. Page, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, marking a heartbreaking end to the day's activities on the slopes.
The circumstances surrounding this tragedy are particularly unfortunate, as there were no witnesses present at the time of the crash. This absence of eyewitness accounts presents challenges for the Jackson Police Department as they conduct an investigation into the specifics of the incident. Authorities are diligently working to gather more information to understand how this accident occurred.
In line with standard procedures following such tragic events, the New Hampshire medical examiner's office has been notified. They mandated that the remains of Mr. Page be transported to Furber and White Funeral Services in North Conway, New Hampshire, for further examination and preparation for his funeral services.
This unfortunate event serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent risks associated with winter sports, including skiing, which can often be taken for granted at well-established ski resorts. The skiing community is coming together to mourn the loss of a fellow skier, and our thoughts are with Mr. Page's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
