Thundery deluge hits Ireland TODAY amid weather alert fears as Met Eireann issue 20C sun forecast amid heatwave verdict

BRIGHTER and sunnier weather is just around the corner, with Met Eireann confirming temperatures will hit 20C in just a few days. Heavy rain and overcast conditions will only remain for a few more days before summer returns. 3 Rain will batter for days before any sign of sunshine Credit: Meteologix 3 Temperatures will peak on Tuesday Credit: Meteologix Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel said: "It's next week we're really looking forward to when those temperatures shoot up into the mid 20s." Despite high temperatures and sunny conditions making their way to Ireland, many areas will have to suffer the last bout of bad weather in the days leading up to it. Today will be another wet and miserable day, with Saturday following in its footsteps. However, these conditions will begin to see improvements throughout Sunday as temperatures build and any lingering rain clears off. Then into next week, it will be clear skies and sunny outbreaks as temperatures soar. The temperature increase will happen gradually day-on-day, leading to mid-week temperatures seeing major highs. As for today, it's looking like the possibility of thundery showers could bring a yellow rain warning. Cathal said: "Certainly so for most of the south, parts of the midlands and also into the north and east of the country, we will see rather overcast and wet conditions, maybe a little drier in parts of the west but there is the possibility of one or two thundery downpours breaking out as we go on into the afternoon. "Generally speaking, it's an overcast day, some heavy falls of rain possible across parts of the south and southeast, especially over higher ground, upwards of 55mm in some places, so there is the possibility of a yellow weather warning being issued there." Temperatures of up to 20C on way as weather bosses predict 'above average' temperatures WEEKEND IMPROVEMENT It's not all bad news for the weekend as the worst hits on Friday, with Saturday bringing some remaining drizzle across the country. The weather expert said: "As we go into the weekend, we do see some improvement in our conditions, so we lose that front that passes through. "On Saturday itself, for most of the country its a case of some hazy spells of sunshine in parts of the east and southeast, rather cloudy conditions elsewhere and always the chance of a little bit of mist or drizzle. "We will see rather humid conditions, temperatures getting up into the mid to high teens, around 15C or 16C." Overnight rain will lead to a groggy start on Sunday, but this won't last long as temperatures climb to the high teens. SUNNY WEEK He said: "We see a band of rain pushing through on Saturday night, that leads to a more muggy, overcast day on Sunday but gradually drying out as the day goes on, with temperatures increasing up into the high teens once again." And finally, in an update most have been crossing their fingers for, summer days are hitting next week as high pressure begins to build from the east. He added: "As we get into next week, we see high pressure start to build to our east and that draws in some very warm air from the continent, with temperatures during the mid-week period getting up as high as 24C, maybe even sneaking above 25C. "Certainly, we have some very pleasant conditions to look forward to next week, a little bit of pain to go through over the next 36 hours or so and then improving after the weekend." Met Eireann confirmed temperatures on Tuesday will peak between 16C and 20C on a "warm and sunny" day. However, the weather boffins said that a heatwave isn't looking likely just yet. Meteorologists said: "There is a good deal of uncertainty in the forecast for the rest of next week. "Nearby high pressure looks likely to bring plenty of dry weather and mild or warm conditions but some spells of rain or showers cannot be ruled out."
