Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher advised on Man Utd transfer and to 'get to know' Ruben Amorim With rumours circulating that Manchester United are considering a new goalkeeper, Teddy Sheringham has chimed in on whether Liverpool No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher should move to Old Trafford Caoimhin Kelleher has been warned against a move from Liverpool to Manchester United (Image: Getty Images ) Caoimhin Kelleher leaving Liverpool for arch-rivals Manchester United would be ill-advised, says Teddy Sheringham. Current United No.1 Andre Onana is under fire this season, notably after a couple of costly errors in the Red Devils' 2-2 Europa League draw with Lyon, subsequently being benched for a weekend clash against Newcastle. As the summer transfer window approaches, manager Ruben Amorim is believed to be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper to help turn around his team's fortunes, currently languishing at 14th in the Premier League. Liverpool's Kelleher, one of the top flight's most promising goalkeeping talents, was tipped to leave Anfield last year following impressive cup and league displays as Alisson's understudy. Though no transfer materialised then, the impending arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia suggests Kelleher might soon take up a primary role elsewhere. Nonetheless, former United striker Sheringham has reservations about Kelleher making a controversial switch to Old Trafford. Article continues below "Caoimhin Kelleher to Manchester United. I don't think that would be good for the player or the club. It would bring so much pressure on his shoulders," Sheringham expressed to CasinoHawks. "The only way it might be a success is if Ruben Amorim got to know him personally and was able to have a close relationship with him, but without that, it would be putting too much pressure on his shoulders." Kelleher has been quite vocal about his ambitions as Liverpool's backup goalkeeper, and in September last year, he openly expressed his eagerness for regular playtime. "I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out," Kelleher revealed last summer, hinting at a possible exit from Anfield. "The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper [Mamardashvili], and from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction. "It's been reported that Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. My ambition is clear: I think I'm good enough, and I want to go out and prove it." Under Arne Slot this season, Kelleher has continued to serve as an exceptional second choice, stepping in for Alisson when he suffered a hamstring injury in October last year. As usual, Kelleher has seen plenty of action in cup competitions - including starting in Liverpool's 2-1 League Cup final loss to Newcastle. However, with Mamardashvili joining the squad and Kelleher's ambition for regular playtime, it seems likely that he will bid farewell to Merseyside at the end of this season.
