Police and clean-up crews remain at the scene of a house explosion which killed a man in Worksop two weeks ago. The north Nottinghamshire town's John Street remains closed off and a manned police cordon is still in place as of Saturday, April 26 - 14 days after the incident. Emergency services were called to the scene at 7.39pm on Saturday, April 12, after explosion took place inside a house and a major incident was declared. A number of neighbouring properties were also damaged and are still taped off by the significant number of emergency service workers still on the scene. A number of construction workers, as well as heavy equipment like diggers, are working on the street. Bassetlaw District Council said shortly after the blast that it may be "up to two weeks" before some families were able to return to their homes. Despite the best efforts of emergency workers, 53-year-old David Howard died at the scene after April 12's explosion. A 43-year-old man was arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder by police, who say they are keeping an open mind about the cause of the explosion. A Bassetlaw District Council spokesperson said the cordon covered 14 properties, including three heavily damaged homes that are expected to be demolished. A total of 35 properties and around 50 people were evacuated after the explosion, some of whom were given emergency shelter at the nearby Crown Place Community Centre. The council said it was continuing to provide emergency and temporary accommodation for residents who are not able to return to their homes.
