More info There will be a lot of soul-searching in the Dublin camp before the All-Ireland series begins as they try to deal with being knocked off their perch in Leinster. The 14-in-a-row provincial champions were beaten by Meath in Portlaoise in a huge semi-final upset, with the Royals advancing to face Louth in the final in two weeks. Dessie Farrell's Dublin go to the All-Ireland group stage now as third seeds with one provincial champion and one runner-up set to join them in their four team pool. That may bring the best out of the Blues but, for now, there are serious questions over their ability to contend for the game's major prizes. They famously won six All-Irelands in a row in the last decade or so and one of the mainstays of that run, forward star Paul Flynn, has had his say on RTE's League Sunday. The Fingallians man was clearly angry about the 'sloppy' nature of Dublin's display against great rivals Meath. "Wind aside, the second half, the sloppiness of Dublin would be the most frustrating thing. There were opportunities in that game. Time and time again they made bad decisions or just didn't execute the right thing," said Flynn. "No clarity, no execution of the basic skills that at any level, any team would be disappointed with. They just kept turning the ball over. It just kept on giving belief to Meath. (Image: ©INPHO/Bryan Keane) "It was just sloppy. There were times in the past there was an air of inevitability of how it would end. I didn't get that at all. They got themselves into a good position, they actually should have seen that game out." With only a handful of those All-Ireland winners still part of the starting side, Farrell will have it all to do to get Dublin back to the final stages. When asked if it looks like a long road back for Dublin, Flynn replied: "It does. "You want your players playing on the pitch now, your best team. There's still too many question marks. The middle sector, they are not strong enough. They were bullied around that area today. 'They don't have that fear factor up front. There's not enough game winners. I don't see Dublin being All-Ireland contenders after today. But at the same time I don't think anyone will want them in their group. "The season is not over but they certainly have a bit of regrouping to do." Tyrone All-Ireland winner Enda McGinley was also in the RTE League Sunday studio and was not impressed with Dublin's effort on the day "You would question Dublin's energy or the intensity that they brought to their defensive effort," said the Ballygawley native. Dublin will find out the make up of their All-Ireland group in Wednesday's draw and begin to plot a route back.
