Christopher Hollins had accused his spouse of having an affair, and when she admitted it, he unleashed a barrage of punches. ‌ The victim, who had been married to Hollins for 17 years, suffered from 'severe swelling' which left her 'unable to open her right eye'. Prosecutor Charlotte Morgan said: "The defendant accused her of an affair - which she admitted to - and he attacked her, hitting her multiple times over a number of minutes until she was on the bathroom floor." ‌ The court was told Hollins then got a knife and had 'paced around the house' with the blade, but did not use it to threaten the victim. Ms Morgan continued: "Her relatives came over and found her on the bathroom floor and took her to A&E." A CT scan showed she had not sustained any fractures, however the court was told her fear of her ex had left her feeling 'uncomfortable' and 'looking over her shoulder'. ‌ Hollins, formerly of Preston Street, Smallthorne, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, StokeonTrentLive reports. Simon Leech, mitigating, said: "Mr Hollins is working as a HGV driver, away from Stoke-on-Trent for a significant time each week. "He is currently paying 50 per cent of the property he's prohibited from. ‌ "There has been no contact in almost six months, since the incident took place. "His belongings still remain at the former family home, and the financial circumstances needs addressing such as mortgage repayments." Magistrate Sandra Gray handed Hollins an 18-month restraining order and ordered him to carry out 27 rehabilitation activity requirement days and 100 hours unpaid work.
