Manchester United defeated in entertaining title race against rivals Man City Man Utd's U18s fought to defend their title, but they will not finish the 2024/2025 campaign with a piece of silverware. The u18s enjoyed a stunning season in the 2023/24, completing a treble and winning two of those trophies at the expense of City, who were their biggest rivals again during this campaign. ‌ City played Derby County on Saturday, knowing they would be crowned Premier League North winners if they won and United dropped points. United faced Everton away from home at Finch Farm, and they required an injury-time goal from George Finney to snatch a 4-4 draw. ‌ The Blues won 4-3 against Derby and also required an injury-time goal to claim the victory. It looked like the title race could go to the final day, but City claimed the trophy in the final seconds of the match. Even if United win their final two league fixtures, they will finish on 63 points and City are on 64. Last season, United won the title with a tally of 62 points and City finished second with 56. They have bounced back to claim a fifth league title in a sixth season at U18 level, though, and United won't be able to seek revenge in the FA Youth Cup final after being knocked out by Villa last month. United have a talented U18 side, but they lost on penalties against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the semi-final of the Youth Cup, and they will go this season without winning a trophy. ‌ --- Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
