An Arsenal vs Inter Milan Champions League final would be a horror watch for football fans - no one wants to see that. That's the view of ex-Watford captain Troy Deeney, who has backed the Gunners to reach their first European Cup showpiece since 2006. 7 Mikel Arteta has guided Arsenal to their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2009 Credit: Getty And Deeney believes Arsenal would be favourites to win their first Champions League title should they progress past Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal welcome Les Parisiens to the Emirates on Tuesday night for the first leg of their semi-final clash. In the other last-four tie, Barcelona and Inter Milan battle for a place in the May 31 final which takes place at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. Arsenal have already played PSG and Inter in the league phase of Europe's premier competition earlier this term. While Arsenal eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over their French opponents, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the San Siro in what is their only European defeat so far. And for Deeney, he has stated he would hate to watch Arsenal and Inter - two clubs renowned for their defensive resilience - once again facing each other. Inter boasts the meanest defence in the competition having conceded just five goals, with Arsenal closely following with seven goals. Speaking to talkSPORT.com, Deeney was asked whether he believes the winner of Arsenal against PSG will end up lifting the title, to which he said: "You make them favourites. "The game I would hate to see is Arsenal vs Inter, because that will be a f****** snore-fest, wouldn't it? "It will be a game of set pieces, and no-one wants to see that. 7 Arsenal became the first English side to beat Real at the Bernabeu twice in their previous European outing Credit: Getty 7 The Gunners have already beaten PSG this season, with Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka on target Credit: The Times "But I think whoever wins it [between Arsenal and PSG] would be the favourites in a one-off [final match]. "And again, if Arsenal went on to win it, it would be great for English football, it will be great for them. "The fans will be f****** unbearable, but it'll be good." Arsenal sealed their first semi-final appearance since 2009 by beating Real Madrid home and away in the quarter-final - breezing to a 5-1 aggregate win. While Los Blancos, the Champions League holders, have struggled for consistency this term, PSG have been one of the standout teams across Europe. Having already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title, PSG have swept aside Premier League champions Liverpool and Aston Villa en route to the semi-finals. 7 Arsenal have been one of the standout teams in the Champions League this term When asked whether boss Mikel Arteta should tinker his system in facing PSG, Deeney remarked: "There has to be a tweak, because neither team are the same team before [as they were in October clash]. "So if you look at Arsenal, I think the Real Madrid [tie] was literally like a coming out party for Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka. "They're at a level now where they're expected to beat PSG. "Whereas in the Real Madrid game, it was like people were going, 'Oh that's them out.' "I think they are favourites, slightly, because I think the way PSG play, it suits Arsenal. "They can be a little bit more defensive and hit on the counter-attack with the pace and power that they have." 7 PSH have the attack to hurt Arsenal, but the Gunners have a superior midfield, claims Deeney Credit: Getty I'm sorry! Gabby Agbonlahor APOLOGISES to Arsenal fans and says they will WIN the Champions League Arteta also has a dilemma as to whether he elects to start Mikel Merino up top, should the Spaniard be passed fit to feature, having thrived in Kai Havertz's absence. Alternatively, with defensive midfielder Thomas Partey suspended for the first leg, Arteta could decide to drop Rice into the lone No.6 role and play Merino as one of his two No.8's alongside skipper Martin Odegaard. That midfield three worked wonders in the 4-0 away win at Ipswich recently, which saw Leandro Trossard, reintroduced to the line-up, score twice in a false nine role. Commenting on where Merino should play, Deeney believes Merino should once again lead the line, as he stated: "I do think with this PSG team, you need pace and power. "You need pace and power because those boys [PSG defence] are all quick as well. "So if you went with Merino, you need pace and power running off the back of him, otherwise you will be in trouble. 7 Merino has banged in eight goals in his debut season in north London Credit: Getty 7 The Champions League represents Arsenal's last chance of scooping silverware this season Credit: Getty "It'll be really interesting to see how Saka and [Nuno] Mendes get on. "Because I think he's possibly the best left-back in world football going up against arguably one of the best wingers in world football, so that will be a really interesting battle. "The midfield, I actually give the edge to Arsenal, I think Arsenal have a better midfield than PSG. "But it's whether that disjointed backline of Arsenal can keep up with that [PSG] front three. "Because the work rate and the pace and the power that they have... it's a really intriguing game. "I think it's going to be a lot closer than people think, but it will be a great game of football."
