In a surprising announcement that caught many off-guard, it has been revealed that acclaimed director David Fincher will be teaming up with his long-time collaborator and friend, Brad Pitt, to create a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's celebrated 2019 film, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. This collaboration is set to debut on Netflix, although the news broke on April Fools' Day, leading some to question its authenticity.

Among the few who were in the loop before the announcement was fellow director Steven Soderbergh, a close friend of Fincher. In a recent interview with Business Insider, Soderbergh expressed his belief that Fincher and Pitt are always on the lookout for new projects to undertake together. He explained, I think theyre always on the lookout for something to do together. This was, it sounds like, an unusual set of circumstances where Quentin decided he didnt want to do it, and Brad asked him, Can I show it to David? and he said sure, and David read it and said, Lets do it.

However, even Soderbergh was taken aback by one particular aspect of the announcement. Whats surprising is Quentins agreeability, he remarked, hinting at the often-discussed notion that Tarantino has a strong attachment to the films he creates.

There is speculation in Hollywood that the renowned director, who has previously stated intentions to retire after releasing his next filmhis tenthmay not have wanted to conclude his illustrious career with a sequel. Tarantino's script for the sequel centers around Cliff Booth, the character portrayed by Pitt in the original film, adding another layer of intrigue to the project.

In Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, the narrative follows the story of Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, a television star grappling with the evolving dynamics of Hollywood during the late 1960s. Pitt's portrayal of Cliff Booth, Daltons loyal stuntman and companion, was met with critical acclaim, earning him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Details regarding the sequel remain scarce, although it has been suggested that DiCaprio may reprise his role as Dalton in a cameo. With both Fincher and Pitt having previously collaborated on iconic films such as Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, expectations for this project are undeniably high.

When asked if he had prior knowledge of Fincher taking on the sequel before the news became public, Soderbergh replied, I was aware, but I was also very cognizant that this was a newsworthy piece of information. Actually, I was surprised it took that long for the story to come out. But its happening, and its happening soon.
