CCTV footage played at Nottingham Magistrates' Court showed Sam Dean, from Kirkby, run from his seat at the City Ground and leap over the barrier before being intercepted by stewards and later arrested. ‌ In the same clip, fellow Everton FC supporter, Tim Graney, is also seen to jump over the barrier and head towards the Toffees as the goal secured a 1-0 win, Nottinghamshire Live reports. ‌ In an interview after his arrest, Dean said he’d “had a few beers and the emotion overcame him” while Graney, a former chairman of Pinxton FC in Derbyshire, said he “was excited and wanted to celebrate”. Sentencing Dean, Thomas Quarton-Manuel, chair of the bench, said: “We recognise that football is your passion. You are a hard-working family man who’d had a few beers and ran onto the pitch in a moment of overexcitement.” And sentencing Graney, he said: “You ran on the pitch in a moment of overexcitement and we have heard how you are a respected man in Pinxton and at Pinxton FC.” Article continues below Doucoure celebrates his winning goal Flo Harper, prosecuting, said the offences happened on April 12 this year, when Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure netted a 94th-minute winner in front of a sell-out away end in the Lower Bridgford Stand at the City Ground. She said: “After the goal went in, the defendant, Mr Dean, left his seat and jumped over the barrier and onto the grass, where he was tackled by stewards. He was arrested and interviewed and said he’d had a few beers before the game and, when the winner went in, emotion overcame him. ‌ “He said he never had any other intention than to celebrate and he said he knew it was an offence to enter the pitch and that a banning order could follow.” In terms of what Mr Graney did, the prosecutor said: “After the goal he jumped over onto the tarmac area and was pushed back several times by several stewards but made efforts to jump over the advertising hoardings with a steward holding onto his waistband but he got over and placed one foot onto the grass. In interview he, too, said he was emotional and wanted to celebrate with the players.” Dean, 36, of Wilson Drive, Kirkby and Graney, 60, of Park Lane, Pinxton, both pleaded guilty to a charge of going onto the playing area at a football match without lawful authority. Roger Wilson, representing both Blues fans, said Mr Dean’s life “revolves around work, his family life, children and football” and he has followed Everton home and away since he was young. ‌ He said: “He is a hard worker, working 10 days away, and came to court today from Bridgewater. He is married and has three children aged 14, 12 and five and on the day in question he came to Nottingham to follow his team, the emotion overcame him and that was it. There was no violence, no threats and he has no previous convictions of any kind.” Dean was fined £572 and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £230 victim surcharge and was handed the three-year football banning order. Speaking about Graney, Mr Wilson said: “He is a man of 60 with no previous convictions, is married with two grown-up children and works hard as a support driver. “He does not accept being aggressive or pushing past stewards. He was excited and wanted to celebrate. Article continues below “He is a Nottingham man who supports Everton and this was an extra special victory for him due to the Forest supporters he works with. He is respected in the Pinxton area and was the chairman of a local football club, Pinxton FC, there. Football is his passion.” He was fined £345, was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £178 victim surcharge and was also handed a three-year banning order.
