The Bhootnii, starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari and Sunny Singh, is the latest addition to Bollywood’s horror comedy genre. Directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, the film premiered in theatres on Thursday, May 1, and the audience wasted no time in flocking to their nearest cinemas to watch the film with their loved ones, enjoying a time filled with equal parts horror and laughter. In a video shared on Instagram on Friday, May 2, people were seen in long queues outside a theatre, buying tickets to watch the horror comedy film on the first day. The next clip showcased a fully packed theatre, with the crowd clearly having a blast while watching The Bhootnii. Cheers, laughter, and delighted faces lit up the hall as the film played on screen. To take the hype around the film to the next level, the lead actor of the film, none other than Sanjay Dutt, decided to visit a theatre. Dressed in a crisp white shirt and blue jeans paired with stylish sunglasses, the actor was seen entering a theatre with his signature swag. Upon seeing him in the theatre, the moviegoers broke out into thunderous applause and cheers. Sanjay Dutt’s face immediately lit up upon seeing the love. Standing alongside the film’s producers, the 65-year-old took the microphone and greeted the viewers. In his brief speech, the actor hoped that the audience liked The Bhootnii. He said, “Mujhe umeed hai ki aap sabko pasand aayi picture. Mazza aaya? Enjoy kijiye picture apni families ke saath (I hope everyone liked the movie. Did you enjoy it? Do enjoy the picture with your families).” The actor ended his brief interaction, saying, “Thank you, everybody, and I love you all. The Bhootnii is set on the premises of St. Vincent College. The college has a Virgin Tree, which awakens every Valentine’s Day in search of true love, haunting students with terrifying obsessions. As chaos spreads, a paranormal expert is summoned, who faces a supernatural force unlike anything he had encountered before. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, The Bhootnii earned around Rs 0.65 crore on its first day, with an overall Hindi occupancy of 18.90%.
