The developers of The Crossroads have announced that the family entertainment complex Gamescape by Cinemark will be the first anchor tenant for the $850 million project. A groundbreaking event for the project at 72nd and Dodge Streets is anticipated in June, with construction to begin immediately after, Woodbury Corp. and development partner WRK Real Estate said Tuesday. The developers described Gamescape by Cinemark as an “all-in-one immersive entertainment destination“ where guests of all ages can play, dine and explore through movie theaters, bowling, an arcade, laser tag, a full-service restaurant and more. Gamescape by Cinemark at The Crossroads will be the company’s only location in Nebraska and is one of the exhibitor’s first family entertainment centers. “We have been excited to share this tenant and there’s nothing like it in the area. It’s the perfect first tenant that will set the tone for the rest of The Crossroads project,” Jeff Woodbury, senior vice president of development and acquisitions at Utah-based Woodbury Corp., said in a statement. “Without the leadership of the city and mayor, we would not have been able to get this deal done with Cinemark.” Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said the project brings a new family entertainment destination to Omaha and will be “part of the revival of this true crossroads of our city.” Jay Ostrand, executive vice president of real estate and construction for Cinemark, said The Crossroads is “an ideal location for this new build’s wide array of amenities and activities fit for every occasion and interest.” Phase one of work at The Crossroads is underway and will include one-third of the overall development and feature not only Gamescape but also multifamily residential units, office space, shopping and parking. Omaha City Council President Pete Festersen, who represents the area that includes the site, said Tuesday that the announcement is an indication that the project is moving forward. It’s also exciting that the complex is new to the market. “I look forward to the groundbreaking and many more announcements,” he said. Stothert in December announced a $38.8 million deal involving the City of Omaha, Woodbury Corp. and KJ Ventures for property for the first phase of Woodbury’s redevelopment at the former Crossroads Mall site. The deal was connected to a redevelopment agreement between the city and Woodbury Corp., which took over redevelopment of the site from KJ Crossroads Venture, an Omaha partnership that demolished the mall and began preparing the site before its effort stalled out. The purchase, which had been in the works for months, was another chapter in the long saga of Crossroads redevelopment. Stothert at the time hailed the deal closing as “a major milestone” necessary for construction to begin.
