Earlier this year, the dedicated team at dog rescue Happy Doggo received a distressing call about a puppy in dire need of help. This little soul had been spotted lurking around a construction site deep in the Thai jungle, with a grim fate waiting to befall her. The construction managers were just moments away from getting rid of her — and not in a gentle way. Luckily, the team at Happy Doggo arrived just in time.

When they found Candy, she was trembling and hiding under a bush, trying to escape the harsh realities of her situation. “She ran away from us to get under this metal sheet,” recounted Niall Harbison, the founder of Happy Doggo, in a heartfelt video for The Dodo. As the rescuers got closer, they discovered that Candy was missing one of her back legs. Whether it was due to being born that way or from an injury was unclear, but this revelation only fueled their determination to save her.

After some careful coaxing, the team managed to pick up the frightened puppy. As they transported her to safety, a glimmer of trust started to shine through her anxiety. “She’s a very, very nervous dog,” Harbison observed, “but she likes being held.”

Affectionately named Candy for her sweet disposition, the little pup soon received the medical care she so desperately needed. With time, patience, and lots of love, the Happy Doggo staff and volunteers worked on helping Candy shed her fears. Remarkably, within just a few weeks, this timid little creature began to blossom into a playful and cuddly companion. Harbison proudly shared on Instagram, “She soon flourished into the most loving and playful dog.”

Fast forward six months... Candy’s life took another turn for the better when a warm-hearted family in Spain decided to adopt her. Now, Candy revels in her new life, dashing around parks and beaches with the same fervor you would expect from a turbo rocket. She’s so fast, in fact, that she often leaves her new brother, Fletcher, in the dust! “She’s a speed demon,” Harbison exclaimed. “Turbo rocket!”
