Zosia Mamet wants you to take a bite of her brain’s charcuterie platter — no, really. The Girls alum, 37, is gearing up to release her debut book, Does This Make Me Funny?, a smattering of stories that span her upbringing as a self-described “B-minus nepo baby” to the present and PEOPLE can exclusively reveal its cover. The actress’s debut book, set to release Sept. 9, aims to offer a never-before-seen glimpse into her mind, she tells PEOPLE exclusively. "I think this book is a little bit like a charcuterie platter ... of the inside of my brain,” says Zosia, the daughter of actress Lindsay Crouse and playwright David Mamet. “There's a little bit of everything,” she adds. “There's some personal trauma, some comedic relief, some insane stories from my childhood and young adulthood when I was pretending to be a hooligan, some love, some hate ... Ya know, cheese, prosciutto, dates, pistachios.” As for what she hopes to accomplish with said metaphorical snack plate? “My main goal with anything I create is to help people feel less alone,” Zosia tells PEOPLE. “And, hopefully, to make them laugh. So that's what I hope readers get from this book. A good chuckle, and the reminder that, no matter what they are going through, good, bad or ugly, they are not alone.” Though it does mark her debut as an author, Zosia previously edited a collection of essays and recipes, My First Popsicle: An Anthology of Food and Feelings. Published in 2022, the essay anthology featured work from Patti LuPone, Kaley Cuoco, Busy Philipps and more — but Does This Make Me Funny? is all her. Billed as a “collection of charmingly witty and achingly vulnerable essays about the challenge and magic of growing up in show business,” the collection is a re-introduction of sorts to The Flight Attendant actress. “You may know Zosia Mamet from her singular role as Shoshanna on Girls, or for being one of Hollywood’s original nepo babies (or as she says, “a B-minus nepo baby, a nepito baby if you will”),” an official description reads. “What you might not know,” the synopsis continues, “is that as a toddler she visited theaters where her mom was rehearsing, crawling around on the floor and scrunching herself between seats; that she earnestly believed in Santa Claus for way too long; that she spent years navigating body image issues in hopes of finding elusive self-love and that she was so overwhelmed and overjoyed when finally meeting her idol David Sedaris that she hid in the bathroom and melted into a ‘puddle of glitter.’ ” The essays in the upcoming book, the synopsis teases, “introduce us to Zosia Mamet in all her glory — from her early days growing up in literary and dramatic circles, to her years as a young adult pining for acceptance and love, to her first attempts to make it as an actor, to where she (and [her Girls character] Shosh) are now.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
