More info When you think of a farm shop, writes Devon Live, you may think of a wooden hut serving up local produce - but if you've ever been to Strawberry Fields at Lifton, you'll know it can be a destination where you can spend hours. The first time I went to Strawberry Fields I was wowed by how much there was to do. Not only could you have breakfast or lunch in their spacious restaurant named The Garden Room - which is dog friendly - there's also a coffee shop area to enjoy delicious cakes, pastries and cups of tea and coffee. Then you can go into their huge farm shop and get your hands on delicious and locally sourced food, with a fresh meat, bread and cake counter. I always stock up on their yummy chocolate cake, brownies and their spectacular quiche. Each time I walk around the shop, I always find new things to try too. (Image: DevonLive) There's also a pretty big gift shop too. It sells unique items that would make perfect birthday presents, as well as quirky home decor and kitchen essentials. There's even Jellycats and a section of goods for pets too. There are several photo opportunities inside the shop, including the milk truck, honey bee hive and currently there's a beautiful floral doorway you can pose at just inside the entrance. But it doesn't stop there, Strawberry Fields hosts several events each year and at the moment it currently has the Tulip Fest running with the last day being Sunday, April 27. (Image: DevonLive) There are 250,000 bulbs, over 40 photo opportunities across the fields, with more than three acres of tulip rows. There's also live music, homemade treats, a barrel train, farm animals, a bar, marshmallow toasting and even a section to create your own bouquet. There are also events held in the fields, with festival nights set to take place over May, June and August. No matter the day or time, Strawberry Fields always seems to be fairly busy, but as it is pretty spacious inside it never feels crowded. I'd recommend booking a table if you want to ensure you can get in for breakfast, lunch or even their delicious speciality afternoon teas. I've had breakfast in their restaurant on multiple occasions and I'd highly recommend the classic eggs Benedict. It costs £12.95 and is a fairly generous portion, with the freshest eggs and zesty Hollandaise sauce. The eggs are a gorgeous bright orange colour and are perfect. I'm always disappointed if poached eggs don't ooze with yolk when you pop them, but Strawberry Fields has never disappointed. My partner always opts for the 'hearty farmer's breakfast', which always looks absolutely delicious. I think it is really reasonably priced at £14.95 and comes with two slices of bacon, two pork sausages, baked beans, fresh cooked tomato, fried potatoes, mushrooms, two eggs and two slices of toast. He also adds on their extremely tasty black pudding for £1.80 - which I do think should be included in the biggest breakfast they offer, but it isn't everyone's favourite and that's totally understandable. The Garden Room serves breakfast Monday- Sunday 8am to 11.30am. Monday to Thursday it serves afternoon tea from 11am to 11.45am, by booking only. Lunch takes place between 12pm and 2.30pm, the light menu between 2.30pm and 5pm and afternoon tea bookings from 3pm to 3.45pm by booking only. Do be warned though, you may spend a lot longer here than intended.
