More info Matt Baker, a familiar face on Countryfile for over 15 years since joining in 2009, has been a staple of BBC programming. He first graced our screens as a co-presenter on the beloved children's show Blue Peter in 1999, where he worked alongside TV icon Konnie Huq before eventually leaving. Viewers will also remember his time co-hosting The One Show with Alex Jones until he departed from the network in April 2020. Around this time, Matt launched his own production company, Big Circus Media, signalling a shift towards behind-the-scenes work. However, he's now back in front of the camera, delighting fans with his new Channel 4 show, Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker. The programme has already garnered a strong following, with an eight-part series that began this April. In it, Matt collaborates with the National Trust to find a new tenant for a 600-acre farm located in the picturesque Eryri, North Wales. Each episode sees seven applicants vying for the chance to take over the farm, demonstrating their farming skills through a series of challenging tasks, reports Gloucestershire Live. While we've come to know Matt quite well as a TV personality over the past two decades, less is known about his life off-screen and what his home life entails. Who is Matt Baker's wife? (Image: ITV) Matt Baker has been married to Nicola Mooney, his childhood sweetheart, since 2004. They reside in a picturesque farmhouse in Hertfordshire's Chiltern Hills with their two children. Although they have been married for over two decades, their initial meeting predates their marriage by several years. In 1997, Matt, then 20 years old, caught Nicola's eye while performing in a disco show at Pier 39 in Cleethorpes. Sweet confession (Image: ITV) Nicola, a trained physiotherapist and author of the Whistledown Farm Adventures series, has often received praise from her husband Matt. In a 2011 interview with the Express, he credited his wife for significantly contributing to his on-screen success. At the time, he told the publication: "I'm so lucky that I met my wife Nicola before any of this telly lark started. He added: "I knew way back then she was the one, and I don't think I could have done all this without her." Who are Matt Baker's children? Matt and Nicola have two teenage children, Luke, 17, and Molly, 15. Despite their father's fame, the children prefer to maintain a low profile and avoid the spotlight. Although Matt frequently mentions his family in interviews, they rarely appear on his social media. However, he has previously mentioned that they play a crucial role in the family farm's operations. On the Countryfile website, Matt Baker shared a diary of his daily activities, revealing that his two children would assist with tasks such as numbering sheep using a spray can and feeding the animals. In 2020, when Matt decided to leave The One Show, he cited his wish to spend more time at home with his family as the primary reason for his departure. He informed BBC One viewers: "Most of all, I'm looking forward to spending evenings with my wife Nicola, and finally getting to put my kids to bed." 'Not being needed' (Image: Mark Taylor) Matt opened up about his home life during an appearance on The Mid Point with Gabby Logan podcast last year. He confessed that he was finding it difficult to accept that his two children, now teenagers, no longer relied on him in the same way. He expressed: "I think that's the thing with mid-life, your children become so capable that you're not needed in those same ways anymore, you cheer from the sidelines, you become their biggest supporter. But you're not needed in the same ways, so what're you going to do?" In the same interview, he revealed that this stage of his life had brought him closer to his parents, who were now in need of his help and support in their later years. Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker airs every Saturday on Channel 4 at 6pm.
