Toronto Fire officials received a call at around 4:12 p.m. for reports of a natural gas fire on Balmoral Avenue between Yonge Street and Avenue Road. A spokesperson for Toronto Fire Services says a contractor struck the line while doing work at the property and the fire may have been ignited by a hydro wire. The spokesperson says two houses on Balmoral Avenue are directly affected but several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Toronto Police say no injuries have been reported and the gas has been shut down. That block of Balmoral Avenue has been reopened as of Saturday evening after being closed for drivers and pedestrians.
