Why James McAtee is not in Man City squad vs Nottingham Forest in FA Cup semi-final

Why James McAtee is not in Man City squad vs Nottingham Forest in FA Cup semi-final James McAtee was a strange omission from Manchester City's matchday squad against Nottingham Forest at Wembley for their FA Cup semi-final. Pep Guardiola named an unusual starting line up for Manchester City's FA Cup semi-final, with no sign of James McAtee in the squad at all. McAtee has started two of City's last three games, including Tuesday's important win over Aston Villa in the hunt for Champions League qualification. Kevin De Bruyne has enjoyed a run of starts, too, after being told he will not be offered a new contract, with Jeremy Doku mostly used off the bench - showing his impact with the defence-splitting cross to Matheus Nunes for the late winner against Villa. Article continues below McAtee has started three games in City's run to the FA Cup semi-finals and has enjoyed a decent amount of playing time in the competition, but his absence at Wembley was not down to injury or tactical reasons. Instead, his two yellow cards accumulated vs Leyton Orient in round four and Bournemouth in the quarter-finals triggered an automatic one-game suspension, ruling him out against Forest on Sunday. He will be back for the final should City book their place in next month's showpiece against Crystal Palace. Ederson is back on the bench having not featured since limping off against Crystal Palace three games ago. Manu Akanji's comeback from injury continues on the bench as Guardiola stuck with his new-look back four of Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Nico O'Reilly. Jack Grealish also returned to the starting line up along with Savinho, with Rico Lewis handed a rare start but seemingly in midfield alongside Mateo Kovacic.
