This is one of life’s mysteries, like why the art of baking cakes works well on TV. Here’s a line-up of four of the best, from the longest running to the most recent. The Interiors Podcast, hosted by Tanya Neufeld Flanagan, was launched in 2022 with around 40 episodes to date. It’s an Irish podcast with an international edge. Neufeld Flanagan is a Colombian-American interior designer who’s lived in Ireland for the best part of 10 years. “There’s no other interiors-focused podcast run by an interior designer focused solely on the Irish market,” she says. “In every episode, I interview either an Irish industry expert, like an architect or an interior designer, or an Irish-based homeowner who’s done their own renovation or build.” The episodes are full of strong opinions and practical advice. “My interviews are very conversational, and I love to talk,” she says. Over the years, she’s become skilled at bringing her guests to the juicy parts of their stories, but interesting digressions are part of the action. “Tangents are part of natural conversation and I like my guests to be at ease and excited to tell their story.” Many of her guests are homeowners who post about their homes on Instagram. “I ask them to walk through the story of how they ended up with their site or house, and any tips along the way of how they figured out mortgages, planning permission, hiring the right experts, and managing challenges through to the lessons learned upon completion,” Neufeld-Flanagan says. Her goal for the podcast is to build a library of informative episodes, from window treatments to timber flooring, as well as fun, inspirational stories. “People want to dream and be inspired by -incredible homes, yet they want the nitty-gritty info of how to budget for their project too.” If The Interiors Podcast is like earwigging on the experts, Rip It Up: The Renovations Podcast is more like sitting down for a cup of tea with a pair of highly-informed female friends who are committed to telling you what’s what. With 32 episodes to date, the podcast was launched in January 2024 by Jenny Sheahan and Kate O’Driscoll. Both have been on RTÉ’s Home of the Year and post about their renovation journeys on Instagram. Each episode covers a specific topic along the renovation journey. “We deep dive into the technical details in a way that’s accessible and easy to follow for a first-time renovator,” Sheahan says. “We try to educate the listener so they can make informed decisions and potentially avoid costly mistakes.” The tone of Rip It Up is informal and chatty. “One of our gripes with the renovation info available during our own renovations was it was too technical, long-winded and, to be honest, just a bit boring to watch or listen to.” Sheahan’s favourite episodes include an interview with Laura de Barra, author of Gaff Goddess. “She’s equal parts hilarious and knowledgeable about all things home-related. We honestly could have just chatted with her all night. There are so many unbelievable women in this industry that we want to showcase to help people increase their confidence with building, renovation and DIY.” “Recording a podcast with your husband is always interesting,” says Paul Kinsella. “We haven’t had any major disasters, but we’ve definitely learned a few things along the way. For one, we both love to talk…” Kinsella and his husband, Mark Rogers, are co-hosts of Glow Home, a podcast that launched in February 2025. With 16 episodes under their belt, the pair are taking a breather. “We even managed to get in the top five Irish podcasts within the first six weeks, which we’re so proud of.” Glow Home isn’t just about interiors. “It’s lifestyle, personal stories, pop culture, beauty, and everyday chaos all rolled into one. We don’t aim to be polished design experts. We’re all about creating spaces and lives that feel good, that reflect who you are and how you want to live.” As a listening experience, it’s like being at a cocktail bar with your rowdiest friends and letting the evening run its course. “Each episode kicks off with a proper catch-up,” Kinsella says. What’s been going on behind the scenes, any bits of chaos or joy that have come our way. It sets the tone and brings people into our world.” Then, they dive into their signature segment, ‘Glow Up or Blow Up’, where they hone in on trending topics. “We break it down, share our takes, and decide whether we’re loving it... or it’s getting blown up!” They also respond to questions submitted by our listeners. “It really helps the show feel like a conversation, not just a broadcast.” Like The Interiors Podcast and Rip it Up, Glow Home is self-funded and home-recorded. “We work with a brilliant professional studio team who handle the technical side of things; sound, editing, production,” Kinsella says. “They’ve helped us keep things polished while still letting the authenticity shine through.” The newest of the podcasts, Style Stories, is hosted and funded by the Irish furniture brand EZ Living Interiors and professionally produced by Dustpod. Launched in March 2025, the first three episodes are hosted by Jamie Griffin; the next series will be hosted by Laura O’Keeffe. Both work for EZ Living Interiors. The podcast is in its early days. The first three episodes featured a strong line-up of interviewees. The first was architect and television personality Hugh Wallace, who brings his unique blend of depth and sparkle to the conversation. The second is with Brendan Courtney of Lennon Courtney, also a seasoned and entertaining professional; and the third was Sive O’Brien, editor of House & Home, who speaks about the evolution of magazines and social media, spiced up with tasty trend tips. The dream for Style Stories – and one more easily realisable by a brand-sponsored podcast than an independent one – is to take the show on the road, touring around Ireland, recording live episodes and hosting events. The Interiors Podcast, Rip it Up – the Renovations Podcast, Glow Home, and Style Stories with EZ Living Interiors are available on Apple Podcasts, among other platforms. See also tanyaneufeld.com; @workerscottage; @victorianrathmines; @lifeatno2; and ezliving-interiors.ie
