Chris O’Donnell, aged in her 60s, sadly lost her life in a collision involving a lorry while walking on the Rathbawn Road in Castlebar just before 10am. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital for treatment. Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said the news of the collision was a “terrible tragedy” for the local Castlebar community as he remembered Chris as a “lovely lady” and “genuine person”. He told the Irish Mirror: “She was a really lovely lady, always a smile. Real, genuine person. I’m very sorry, and I want to express my sympathy to her husband and to her family. “She was well known, anyone that ever worked in reception in a hotel they would be well known... It’s a terrible tragedy for her family, for the community.” (Image: PA Archive/PA Images) Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward, including those who may have dash cam footage and were travelling in the area between 9:30am and 10am on Thursday morning.
