Should 'headphone dodgers' be fined? Here's what you think We've been asking for your thoughts on a talking point raised by the Liberal Democrats - should people who play music out loud on public transport face fines? No doubt it's a situation we've all come across, and the Lib Dems reckon it's annoying enough to be considered antisocial behaviour - with £1,000 penalties for those caught doing so. Many of you appear to be in favour… The sooner the better. Those people think they can whatever they want. Brian Ignorant people playing their TikToks, having loud video calls, watching films or listening to music out loud without headphones is the curse of the age on Tubes, buses and trains around London. Graham Price Definitely. It's a super irritating trend these days. Nick S This fine idea is a brilliant idea. Even the quiet coach on trains is used by people who want to blast their conversation across the carriage. Emmanuel But some were more sceptical… Absolute nonsense. As much as I think the perpetrators are selfish, it will never be enforced. I regularly travel on public transport and often witness people not paying their fare. If this is not policed, what chance is a noise being stopped. Dodger How will this be policed? And what is defined as too loud? Will they have a decibel reader to check? Utterly ridiculous idea, far more important things to worry about. Markos Stop telling us what to do and fining us. Spend more time on fighting real criminal offences such as burglary, shoplifting and knife crime. These are the real antisocial offences that affect society. Simon Larkin Agree that music played loudly is a nuisance, but is fining people the way to address a minor societal problem? Just another populist gimmick designed to appeal to a particular type of person but offer nothing real. Dave And we simply had to feature this gem of a response from Billy Joel (presumably not that one)... What next, a £500 fine for passing wind? Absolutely pathetic in my opinion.
