After Days of Speculation, Donald Trump Gets Front Row Seat at Pope’s Funeral

Pope Francis died due to a stroke and coma on Monday after battling severe pneumonia. Everyone has been paying respect to him. The funeral was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Vatican city. Several dignitaries attended it from across the world. Donald Trump, the current US president, was one of the most talked about attendees of the funeral. He arrived in Rome late Friday along with his wife, Melania. Apart from him, more than fifty world leaders were present at the funeral. So, making sure all the leaders were seated at the right spot was necessary for the organizers. Any mess up in the seating would have made their feelings hurt. Earlier there was a discussion that Trump will be sitting on the third row and Obama and Biden may be given priority in the seating over him. The organizers had the task of balancing everyone’s ego at the event, so it made sense to ensure they were happy with their seating. So, the US President was given the front row seats with his wife during the ceremony. The world wants to keep Trump happy and on their side. Despite all the disagreements between the Pope and Donald Trump, he was given the front row. President Ferdinand Marcos R. Trump not believing in global warming while Pope Francis advocating to resolve the environment and humanitarian crisis across the globe. The Pope was also vocal against their immigration crackdown. Both the POTUS and Pope were quick to interview each other and reply over disagreements. So many thought Trump will be sitting at the back. As millions of people tuned in to watch the funeral, they saw Trump in the front row and Melania praying during the ceremony. Other people sitting around Donald Trump were the UK’s Prime Minister and Prince William, Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia and Denmark’s Queen Mary. Trump was at the center of the service like he expected himself to be. All the dignitaries sat in front of the senior clergy. Moreover, monarchs and state heads were sitting beside them. As the Vatican prioritizes state heads, presidents were seated alongside kings and queens, followed by prime ministers. It sickens me that Trump and Melania are attending the Pope’s funeral. The seating plan was designed keeping in mind the French alphabetical order. They did not follow Italian or Latin. This makes sense as they consider French to be their diplomatic language. When asked about the funeral, Cardinal Vincent Nichols said that the stage management will be a masterpiece. They have to keep in mind the state leaders and their importance. He claimed that the organization is capable of handling such events without a sweat. Moreover, he emphasized that all the leaders will go home feeling content.
