I tried Lookfantastic's April Box which saves shoppers £40 on beauty staples

The monthly subscription box from Lookfantastic never fails to bring a smile to my face when it lands on my doorstep/ Valued at £55, April's beauty box is priced at £15 for a one-off purchase, or if you opt for a 12-month rolling subscription, it drops to just £13. Packed with six items - and occasionally even seven if the brand throws in a complimentary gift, as they often do (surpassing Glossybox's five products per month for £13.50) - this box is ideal for those who enjoy experimenting with new products or simply want to shake up their beauty regime. April's box is chock-full of mostly deluxe sized skincare treats that will leave your face, hands, body and scalp feeling ultra-hydrated. It even includes a product that makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts swear by for cleaning their brushes. If you fancy a larger beauty haul, Lookfantastic's Travel Edit features a range of sun-ready products worth £105 for just £30 here, while M&S' Made for an Icon Beauty Box, valued at over £130, is currently on offer for £24, reports the Mirror. Elsewhere, Space NK's Everything Shower Edit is £70 and features brands like Alpha-H, Sol De Janeiro, Living Proof and Aromatherapy Associates. Although if you're after a little spring-time pick me up, here are my honest thoughts on Lookfantastic's April Beauty Box. (Image: Eve Rowlands) First off, the items are delivered in a recyclable cardboard box adorned with the Lookfantastic The Box logo. The box is filled with tissue paper to safeguard the products and add an element of luxury. Inside the box, you'll find five deluxe-sized products that are ideal for slipping into your carry-on bag when travelling, as well as a full-sized makeup brush from Spectrum Collections - a brand I've been eager to try. The box's contents cover all bases with a L'OCCITANE Shea Butter Hand Cream, L'OCCITANE Shower Oil, Peter Thomas Roth Waterdrench Mask, The Nue Co Supa Thick Scalp Serum, ISOCLEAN Makeup Brush Cleaner with a Spray Top and the Spectrum A05 Blusher Brush inside. As a bonus, the brand also included a 1.2ml sample of the Mugler Alien Extraintense Fragrance. Considering some of the products inside retail at £10 and above, the box, priced at £15, offers excellent value for money - particularly as the scalp serum alone costs the same as the entire box. While the whole haul is lovely, three products, in particular, stand out to me, and they're possibly the most accessible and cheapest ones. Firstly, the £4 L'OCCITANE Shower Oil. It's a best-seller for good reason, and having sampled it before in a previous box, I've since stocked up on it. It has a delightful sweet almond fragrance that lingers post shower and feels super luxurious. The product transforms in the shower from a silky golden oil to a milk-like lather, leaving my skin feeling velvety soft and smelling divine. Its compact 35ml size also makes it a perfect addition to my travel wash bag. A second from the renowned skincare brand, the L'OCCITANE Shea Butter Hand Cream valued at £10, is my second favourite. Simply put, it works wonders on dry hands (a problem I frequently suffer, particularly on my knuckles) and comes with a delightful jasmine and ylang ylang scent. It's quickly absorbed and doesn't leave your hands feeling overly greasy post-application. The Spectrum Blusher Brush, full size, may only be worth £8 on Lookfantastic, but it's one I've been eager to try for a while now. Given the brand's reputation and celebrity endorsements, I wasn't surprised by the brush's excellent quality on my somewhat sensitive skin. The bristles were gentle and didn't feel too rigid when applying blusher. In fact, they felt incredibly soft and flexible - a feature my cheaper brushes certainly lack. Perhaps this is the push I needed to upgrade my current makeup brush collection? (Image: Eve Rowlands) Another standout item in the Lookfantastic April box is the ISOCLEAN Makeup Brush Cleaner with a Spray Top. We're all guilty of neglecting our makeup brushes for weeks without giving them a thorough clean, mainly because it can be a hassle to do so with just soap and water. This makeup brush cleaner takes the effort out of keeping your brushes pristine and is a breeze to use. You just spritz onto a tissue—or directly on the brush—then gently swirl the bristles on a surface you don't mind dirtying, and watch as the makeup effortlessly dissolves from your brush. I applied the spray to a tissue (to avoid drenching it without knowing how strong the formula was), and I found that it swiftly cleaned my blush/bronzer brush and at the same time revealed the surprising amount of residue lodged in its bristles. There was, however, one drawback to the product—the scent isn't exactly pleasing. To put it bluntly, the chemical aroma was quite sharp and even caused some irritation to my eyes. Nevertheless, I'm not ready to give up on it; I plan to use it again, this time taking extra care during application. The Mugler Alien Extraintense Fragrance is perfectly sized for travel and can easily be slipped into your handbag for an evening out. Due to lack of social plans since receiving the box, I've saved it instead of squandering it on nights spent at home—although for the purpose of this review I did have a quick whiff, which revealed a divine blend of sweet vanilla and floral jasmine notes. As for the Peter Thomas Roth Waterdrench Mask and the Nue Co Supa Thick Scalp Serum —I haven't gotten round to trying them just yet; I'm saving them for a pampering evening. However, the excitement is real after hearing such rave reviews. One beauty fan shared: "First box and the face mask was my favourite, it left my skin so hydrated. the brush and brush cleanser were also very good too. would probably buy a bigger version of the face mask." Another customer praised the variety in this month's beauty selection, particularly enjoying the Spectrum brush and L'Occitane products: "I love this month's beauty edit, especially for the Spectrum brush and L'Occitane. I will use all products." However, they also mentioned their request for a larger quantity of a certain item: "Wish scalp serum was more to know the results." Although the smaller sizes proved welcome for one shopper who found the box to be an excellent source for travel-sized items and complimented its monthly offerings: "Fab little box to look forward to monthly. Usually at least one full size product in each box! Perfect for a gift or for stocking up on minis while travelling."
