Super Netball 2025: Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard inspires West Coast Fever to crucial win over Melbourne Vixens

Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard has given West Coast Fever’s season life, with the returning superstar leading the WA club to a vital 10-goal victory over arch-rivals Melbourne Vixens. Winless without the Jamaican superstar to start the season, Fowler-Nembhard returned from the tragic loss of her pregnancy just months ago to inspire Fever to a 67-57 win at John Cain Arena on Sunday. Fowler-Nembhard’s 59-goal performance was typical of the five-time Super Netball player-of-the-year but the circumstances around her incredible return made it an even more special game. “It felt really good to get out there with the girls and play some really good netball,” Fowler-Nembhard told Fox Netball. “The work rate from defence into attack was brilliant today, the best I’ve ever seen and they just made my job easier. “It’s to make sure that I adjust quickly to every defensive pressure they’re putting on me. Just stay strong and be a target for the girls to see regardless of what’s going on in the circle. “The two first games that we lost; we did that to ourselves. It was for us to get back to what we know we can do and that’s work-rate and everything else to get the goals going. I reckon we’re back.” Camera Icon Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard dominated. It was a typical goal-for-goal affair early, before Fever opened up the game in a dominant second term which they won 21-14. While Vixens were wasteful, Fever began to build a strong lead blowing their advantage out to 12 goals late in the second term. It took a series of super shots from Lily Graham (17 goals, three super goals) to get the Vixens back within touching distance at half-time, but Fever were still in control. Fran Williams was monumental in defence in the absence of Diamonds star Sunday Aryang, registering six gains and seven deflections to win a crucial match-up on Kiera Austin (22 goals, four super goals). Meanwhile, wing attack Alice Teague-Neeld thrived with the return of Fowler-Nembhard with 34 feeds and 22 goal assists to return to her best. The only threat to a Fever victory was the super shot, but the visitors were composed with the ball in hand when needed to bleed the clock to claim the win in enemy territory.
